Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - Thousands of South Kalimantans performed a prayer to ask for rain or Istisqa held in the courtyard of Sabilal Muhtadin mosque along with Governor Rudy Ariffin.


The mass prayer was held in Banjarmasin on Tuesday led by the mosque's imam KH Husin Nafarin and participated by thousands of people from all walks of life ranging from scholars, government officials, military, police, students to the general public.

Since morning, thousands of people have filled the yard of the largest mosque in South Kalimantan, in the hope of lowering the grace of God in the form of rain soon, to cope with drought during the dry season the past few months.

According to Husin, although in the end God had not sent what was requested, then the community has done a remembrance for granted the kindness and patience in the face of drought that occurred.

South Kalimantan Governor Rudy Ariffin after praying Istisqa said that through the prayer rain expected to fall soon.

According to him, since the last few months, South Kalimantan experienced a long drought. The condition is becoming one of the causes of forest fires, haze until the failure of farmers crop.

"I hope all worshipers always istighfar (ask for forgiveness) and begging prayers for rain immediately, so that a series of disasters that struck South Kalimantan can be reduced," he said.

On the occasion, the Governor also urged the district and city governement in South Kalimantan also hold praying for rain together with the entire community, with the hope of a long dry season in South Kalimantan pass.
