Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - Kotabaru District  plans to develop cow leather as a social economy-based enterprises.

Chairman of Commission II Kotabaru DPRD, H Faruk Syahdan, here on Thursday said that some kind of cow leather products that will be developed include shoes, jackets, belts, bags, hats, and purses.

"It is expected that the creative industries can support the movement in the real sector," he said.

Faruk explains, cow leather is very suitable to be developed in Kotabaru, as this area will also be building central Bali cattle breeding on the island of  Sebuku.

In fact, cow skins from Kotabaru slaughterhouses have so far sent to other regions, because there are no crafters or industries that manage cowhide in this area.

To support the program, the local government asked to provide guidance to the crafters to be able to display higher-quality products as in Java.

Separate Head of Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Department of Kotabaru Industry, Trade and Cooperatives Agency (Disperindagkop), Abdul Ishak, said one of the distinctive crafts such as woven sea pandanus, recently started to be targetted by international markets, including countries in Asia , and America. *** 3 ***
