South Kalimantan apparently still has difficulties to develop rattan industry as to counterbalance rattan log export ban.

Head of  Foreign Trade of South Kalimantan Trade Agency  Gusti Yasni Iqbal admitted the drastic of drop of  the province’s rattan export up till 97,92 percent since the ban by central government .

By the year of 2011, South Kalimantan exported 20 thousand kilograms of rattan, but it export drop to 419,9 kilograms in 2012.  Export value fall till 90 percent from 20.900 US dollars to 2,000 US dollars.

“While the drop of export of raw material from  woodland,  so far we have not yet  counterbalance it with enhancement of rattan industry,” he said in Banjarmasin, Thursday.

But he recognised,  the drop of rattan export  so far did not influence the volume of export of South Kalimantan. It  did not impact its export as a whole, because the province exports still rest on coal. Moreover,  its rattan originally come from Central Kalimantan to be exported to various countries.
