Kotabaru, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Dozens of bagans (fishermen structure to catch fish) in the waters of Sarang Tiung Village, North Sea Island, Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, turned out to be in the area of the shipping lane, thus disrupting the movement of the ship.

Head of Kotabaru Fisheries Agency Mochran Rasyid here Saturday said, there were about 35 bagans in a barrier-free area for ships to pass.

"Three of them are dangerous, if they are hit by a ship, fishermen cannot ask for compensation because they are not allowed to be there," he said.

He explained, there used to be permission to build a bagan. The distance is set around 200 meters from the beach. But over time the bagan gets to the middle of the sea because the number increases.

"Now it is not our authority to supervise. The KSOP (harbor authority) who oversees, they know this is disturbing and need to be coordinated," Mochran said.

PT Arutmin Indonesia NPLCT Kotabaru Operation Superintendent Y Purwanto said many foreign ship captains and guide ships complained of difficulties when entering and leaving the company's pier in Tanjung Pemancingan waters.

"We give the term goalpost where the ship can only pass in the middle, now in front and on the right there are many bagans, while on the left side is the mine area," he said.

"Guide ship must be extra careful so that the ship doesn't hit the bagan," he explained.
