Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - The Government of Balangan, South Kalimantan, is determined to preserve local fruits that have begun to be scarce in a special location.

"The special location for the preservation of these rare fruits is in the Balangan Forest Park, which is not far from the capital city of Paringin," said Balangan Regent Haji Ansharudin to Antara on Saturday.

On the sidelines of attending the South Kalimantan local fruit festival in Marajai Village, Halong Subdistrict, about 250 km north of Banjarmasin, the regent revealed that in the district there are various species of local fruits, some of which are rare and difficult to find on the market.

One location where rare fruit grows is Marajai Village, Halong, where the fruit festival is held.

In this village, workers will look for rare fruit seeds and then cultivate them in the Balangan Forest Park, which is prepared as a preservation and research center and also as a tourist destination.

Not only fruit, but there are also various types of large trees, various rattan, various orchids, and various palm trees in the preservation location.

"We want Balangan Forest Park as the center of the tropical plant," Ansharudin said as he expressed his gratitude for the support of LKBN Antara, which reported a lot about the Balangan District.

"At present, the area of Balangan Forest Park is still five hectares. It is planned that there will be more land acquisition to be seven or eight hectares," he added.

Based on the current record of various types of rare plants that exist in the Balangan Forest Park are 25 species, brought from the area from the Balangan area itself, namely in Halong.

"In Halong, the forest is still natural, it is estimated that there are still hundreds of rare species of plants there, but it takes time to look for these rare plants," he said.
