Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Banjarmasin Mayor H Ibnu Sina received Antara Award from President Director of Indonesian National News Agency (LKBN) Antara Meidyatama Suryodiningrat, who was accompanied by Head of South Kalimantan Bureau of LKBN Antara Nurul Aulia Badar.
The award, in the form of a frame containing an article with a title "The Pioneer of Reducing Plastic Bags," was given for his outstanding achievement in reducing the use of plastic bags in the city.
Ibnu Sina stated his gratitude for the appreciation from the state news agency and said this will be a motivation for the city government to be consistently fighting plastic garbage.
"This is the award for all the residents of Banjarmasin City. Thank you neighborhood unit (RT), community unit (RW) and the cleaning task force, and especially the support from modern stores who comply with a no plastic bag for customer regulation," he remarked.
The awarding in the LKBN Antara Awarding and Gathering event in a series of its 81st anniversary took place at Mahligai Pancasila Building Banjarmasin. The South Kalimantan Governor H Sahbiirin Noor attended the event together with almost all mayors and regents in South Kalimantan.
According to the mayor, by complying the Mayor Regulation (Perwali) No.18/2016 about plastics bag use prohibition in modern stores, the city have prevented until 50 million sheets of plastic bags waste a year.
"Gradually we will apply it to traditional markets as well. Insya Allah we can by the support from all side as this is for the benefit of us alll," he asserted.
The problem of plastic garbage, Ibnu Sina told, it has dumped soil, river till the sea. Specifically, plastic is difficult to decompose until it pollutes and can damage the nature.
Meanwhile, Aulia Badar said, the assessment of the success of Banjarmasin was carried out based on data collection and news reporting.
In the leadership of Mayor H Ibnu Sina and his Deputy H Hermansyah, he said, their program in reducing plastic waste became a national example and even famous worldwide.
"Although there are other programs, but this is very prominent and exemplary and is appreciated by all," he concluded.
