Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - The Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) found dried squid and Medan anchovy (Teri Medan) were contained formalin in markets in the district of Balangan, Tabalong, and North Hulu Sungai (HSU).


HSU Head of HSU's BPOM Bambang Heri Purwanto in Amuntai said Thursday that the agency carried out integrated operations across the market sector in collaboration with the local Health Service. They also immediately conducted sample tests in a number of markets.

"Based on the results of the sample test using the rapid test kit technique on dried squid and Teri Medan sold in the three districts, it turned out to be positive for formalin," Bambang said.

He said BPOM gave traders a deadline of 30 November to withdraw the anchovy and squid which BPOM had tested contained formalin.

He informed that testing of dried squid and Teri Medan samples in Balangan was carried out by BPOM on Tuesday 13 November at Paringin Market and Batu Mandi Market.

While the sample test in Tabalong was carried out at Tanjung Fish Market and Kelau Market on November 14.

Finally, on Thursday 15 November, a sample test was held at the Amuntai Central Market and the Dry Fish Marketing & Warehouse at Alabio Market.

First Pharmacy and Food Supervisor Rivai Endra Dwi Yulianto explained sanctions to be given such as seizure of products and will be processed according to the applicable law.

"After the predetermined deadline, raids will be carried out together with the Health Agency, Trade, and Food Security Agency, and the Fisheries Agency for two commodities that positive with formalin," he said.
