Barabai, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - The resurgence of the issue of coal exploitation that would threaten the Meratus mountain preservation sparked the reaction of Acting Regent Central Hulu Sungai (HST) H A Chairansyah.

Chairansyah reiterated that the development carried out on Bumi Murakata (nickname of the district) must be environmentally sound.

"This trust is as stipulated in the 2006-2025 HST's RPJP (Long Term Development Plan)," Chairansyah said during the 110th Subuh Roving activity at the Pasting Mosque in Hantakan Subdistrict, Friday (26/10).

According to Chairansyah, the leadership of Regent H Abdul Latif for the period of 2016-2021 was a commitment to continue the predecessor's policy of carrying out the mandate of development in favor of environmental conservation.

"This is the mandate of the aspirations of the people of HST who reject coal mining and oil palm plantations that are considered to damage the Meratus forest as a water catchment area and become a source for people who have an agricultural livelihood," he added.

Besides that Chairansyah hopes that the successor of leadership in HST will maintain the basic principles of development in HST that are environmentally sound by rejecting the exploitation of coal and palm oil.

One of the residents of Barabai Taufik claimed to be proud of H Chairansyah's commitment to upholding the principles of environmentally sound development.

"People hope that the leadership in the HST in the future must be a figure who is committed to carrying out the vision of development with an environmental perspective, so Meratus can be sustainable and HST is protected from the threat of major floods," he said.
