Marabahan, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman said the success of land conversion in Jejangkit Muara Village is a proof as well as a new hope for a solution for Indonesia's food future.

"We have more than 10 million hectares of swampland can be used for food production," said the Minister on the commemoration of 2018 World Food Day in jejangkit Muara Village, Barito Kuala District.

According to him, if managed properly, the value could reach Rp1,000 to Rp2,000 trillion for farmers' income in Indonesia.

The goal of developing swampy or lebak land in South Kalimantan, he said, is a permanent solution during the dry season. When drought hits other areas, the lebak land, such as in the Jejangkit Muara, can still harvest.

He stressed, what was done in the Jejangkit Muara Village was a commitment that had great prospects to ensure future food security.

Separately, South Kalimantan Governor H Sahbirin Noor thanked the central government for opening up 4,000 hectares of lebak swamp land in South Kalimantan.

"The land area of 4,000 hectares in South Kalimantan is ready to be planted and ready to be harvested," he said.

He explained, there is no big work cannot be done if done by working together.
