Tanjung, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Tabalong Agriculture Agency, South Kalimantan, continues to intensify cattle obligatory pregnancy program (Upsus SIWAB) to increase cattle population in the district.


Head of the Livestock Division of the Tabalong Agriculture Agency Saswoko in Tanjung Friday said this year's cattle pregnancy realization reached 74.33 percent. "We are targeting 600 cows impregnated and 446 heads or 74.33 percent realized," he said.

Then in the period of January to September 2018, the Upsus SIWAB program has resulted in 425 calves birth or 74.56 percent of the 570 calves targeted.

Meanwhile, Section Head of Breeding and Production of Cattle Heri Sunaryo added efforts to increase cattle population are also carried out through artificial insemination with 685 heads of acceptors.

"Artificial insemination can later improve the genetic quality of cattle," explained Heri.

This year's marriage of artificial insemination targets 800 cows and realized 744 doses or 85.63 percent.

In South Kalimantan, the realization of artificial insemination is quite high, namely 87.5 percent or 24,537 doses of the target of 27,000 in 13 districts and cities.
