Banjarbaru, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - A total of 20 ambassadors from various countries who will present at the commemoration of World Food Day (HPS) in South Kalimantan will be the fathers of the adoption of ironwood trees, typical of South Kalimantan forests.

Head of South Kalimantan Forestry Agency Hanif Faisol Nurrofiq in Banjarbaru Wednesday said his office had prepared land for tree adoption activities on the day of planting Indonesian trees around the South Kalimantan provincial government office in Banjarbaru.

In addition to the 20 ambassadors, he added, the planting of tree adoption will be followed by six counselors and diplomats, representatives of international organizations and 40 representatives of international companion organizations from various countries.

"We also prepare adoption tree planting land for all governors and regents throughout Indonesia who will attend the peak of HPS in Barito Kuala District and South Kalimantan Provincial Government offices in Banjarbaru," he said.

The tree to be planted is a two-meter tall Ulin tree, which is now threatened with extinction.

The adoption system, he added, is very interesting, because every person or organization that is willing to become an adoptive parent is obliged to provide a living, until the tree grows healthy and fertile.

"So if a tree is sick or needs treatment, its adoptive parents must pay a fee," he said.

Previously, 842 trees had been adopted by all officials in the South Kalimantan Provincial Government.

Payment systems for all parents of adoption, he added, can be done through cooperatives.
