Banjarbaru, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Thick enough smoke covered the urban area of Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, entering houses enough to disrupt the activities of people in the city on Sunday morning.

Antaranews monitoring on Sunday at around 7:00 a.m. the spread of smog which was originally thin became thick starting at 07.30 and without any obstacles entering people's homes.

The invasion of white smoke which was thought to be due to forest and land fires, besides causing a strong odor and suffocating the respiratory tract also irritated eyes.

"At 07.00 the fog was thin and had not yet entered the house, but starting at 7:30 a.m. thickened and entered the house," said Fahrul, a resident of Karang Anyar Banjarbaru.

He said he was forced to close doors and windows to reduce smog that entered the entire room in his house so as not to be directly affected.

"It smells stinging and makes my eyes sore so we choose to stay in the room and close the door and window so the fog doesn't go in too much," he said.

Meanwhile, a number of urban roads in Banjarbaru were also shrouded in smoke. Although not too thick, it is clear that the spread of fog meets the surroundings.

The morning sunshine is quite hot, unable to penetrate the thin mist. So the atmosphere on the street becomes less comfortable.

Until 8:45 a.m. the distribution of smog in the city was still quite large and the houses were still in the fog which left a scorch of burnt scent.

Data from South Kalimantan Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) recorded at least 4 locations of peatlands in Banjarbaru spread with an area of up to 50 hectares.

"Our monitoring of all peatlands in Banjarbaru which are spread in four locations have been burned with a total area of 50 hectares," said Head of BPBD South Kalimantan Wahyudin.
