Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - West Banjarbaru Police continued to be on fire alert at the height of the dry season when forest and land fires (karhutla) often occurs.

"Every time a hotspot appears its a compulsory for members to come to the location while coordinating with the BPK (firefighters), BPBD (Disaster Mitigation Agency) and Banjarbaru City government fire brigade," West Banjarbaru Sector Police Chief Commissioner H Syaiful Bob said on Wednesday.

According to him, his side has become the driving force in overcoming forest and land fires as a form of responsibility for whom has a jurisdiction.

Moreover, the West Banjarbaru Police covers sub-district of Landasan Ulin and Liang Anggang, the most vulnerable areas for the emergence of a hotspot. Here there are many vacant lands overgrown with bushes.

"The region that we continue to monitor is the South Landasan Ulin Urban Village, East Landasan Ulin in the area of Jalan Tekukur and Tegal Arum and Guntung Damar in the vicinity of Syamsudin Noor Airport," explained Syaiful Bob to Antaranews.

Although it is acknowledged none perpetrators of land burnings have been caught until now, but Syaiful Bob ensures that he will take firm action if he finds a party who deliberately burns.

"While our suspicions may also be people who often fish throw cigarette butts carelessly on vacant land, in addition to natural factors in the dry season that make grass and dry land flammable," he said.
