Banjarbaru, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Central Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Deputy for Instrumentation, Calibration, Engineering, Network and Communication Widada Sulistya urged people of South Kalimantan to be alert of forest and land fires in the dry season.

"At present, almost all parts of Indonesia are still experiencing a dry season, so there is a potential for forest and land fires," he said in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, Thursday.

The presence of the central BMKG echelon I official was to open a Climate Field School held by BMKG Class I Climatology Station Banjarbaru on August 7-9, 2018.

According to him, the dry season that hit Indonesia is still tinged with rain in a number of regions, but the environmental conditions are dry, so there is the potential for forest and land fires.

"The condition of a dry environment, especially forest and vacant land, is very flammable, also on peatlands that are easy to fire, so all parties must be alert," he said.

The peak of the dry season is expected to occur throughout August to September so that drought will still be felt within the next two months before entering the rainy season.

"The peak of the dry season is predicted from August to September but will continue to be colored by the fall of rain as the rainy season is expected to arrive in October until the end of the year," he said.

It is emphasized, the condition that should be wary of is the emergence of hotspots and must be anticipated so that it does not expand and cause adverse impacts on various fields.

"We see that the coordination carried out by the related parties is quite good seen from the construction of forest and fire prevention posts which are operated 24 hours during the dry season," he said.
