Rantau, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Tapin district administration has succeeded in converting former mining areas into productive land in agriculture in Tarungin Village, Hatungun Subdistrict.
Head of Agriculture Agency Wagimin in Rantau said the successful use of mining land into the productive agricultural land is the only and the first in South Kalimantan.
"With this success, we can prove that former mining land can be used as productive land," he said.
This move also dismissed the public's assumption so far that the ex-mining land just left the dead land that can not be utilized anymore.
"In the area of about 2 hectares we are planting corn, soybeans, and rice," he said again.
This success, of course, opens a chance to expand the development of agricultural land in the former mine land in the future.
Acting Regent Tapin H Gusti Syahyar said it is a good news for all of us can take advantage of the ex-mining area.
"It is expected that with the utilization of mining land, our farmers' income and prosperous is increasing," he said.
