Paringin, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Six cascades potential for tourism discovered by the Forest Management Unit (KPH) of Balangan District, South Kalimantan, when they were expediting to the inland areas of Marajai Village, Halong Sub-district.
The Meratus Mountain forest exploration was conducted for three days from February 28 to March 2, 2018, one of expedition member Emir Faisal Muhammad told AntaranewsKalsel on Tuesday.
In the first day, the group walk from Tanjungan Jelamu, a hamlet in neighborhood unit (RT) 3 Marajai Village. The group was accompanied by Marajai Village Head Adi Setiawan, Head of RT 3 Dinah and Utan, a community leader.
About four hours walk from the Tanjungan Jelamu to the Tanjungan Cincin with a rather extreme terrain, the topography up and down. They stopped several times to identify several trees.
They also took photos of some cascades they passed. The cascades are not very high, but their beauty is extraordinary, the flow of the water is swift and clear, and its natural panorama with the forest as background makes a beautiful nature blend.
There are about six cascades found during the expedition. They have names, namely Buntar, Andian, Kumahau, Kahilangan, Hintalu, and Bantal.
While the second day activity was to identify Ulin (ironwood) plants and other species that thrive in Tanjungan Cincin.
The results were remarkable, there were many types of plants, even rare, found in very large diameter, such as ulin diameter of nearly 120cm, and the average ulin was found to have a diameter between 80-100cm with the number of tens of stems and a fairly close distance.
There is also the Wind of Horn tree whose diameter is almost 180cm. This tree, according to the community, is a meranti tree species. It's certainly remarkable to see the size of the diameter is not impossible that the tree is already 200 to 300 years old.
There are many more types of exotic plants of Kalimantan found here, but unfortunately the weather constrained the activities. Throughout the identification activities, the rain continues to fall.
Nevertheless the team was satisfied with what was found, maybe in the future this activity needs to involve more parties, so to make Marajai Village as tourism-based education village can be realized.
