Barabai, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Hybrid rice cultivation of varieties Sembada 626, which is a government trial program, successful in Central Hulu Sungai District, South Kalimantan.
Farmers Group (Gapoktan) Sabar in Babai Village, Barabai Subdistrict, held the first harvest with Acting Regent H A Chairansyah and other local consultative forums, Monday (12/2).
Chairman of Gapoktan Sabar M Farid Wajidi reported that the area of ??land planted with rice type Sembada 626 is about 10 hectares. The planting begins in November 2017 simultaneously with the Karya Baru farmers group.
"While the area of paddy field in Babai Village is 222.58 hectares and 18.7 hectares of bund area or plantation with the number of farmer groups is 8 with 335 members," he said.
The estimate of the land to be harvested, he said, is about 30 hectares, including about 10 hectares for Sembada 626 with the farmer groups' land scattered, so hybrid rice cultivation is not a stretch.
"The second added planting estimate in February is about 15 hectares and March increased to 62 hectares, bringing the total 77 hectares to the IP 200 rice," he said.
Head of Agricultural Agency Ir Zainuddin said hybrid rice varieties of Sembada 626 is a government program as a test. The seeds were distributed free of charge to the public.
"Babai village farmers are the first to successfully harvest, but for the second planting process of this types cannot be used as seeds, because the results must be different," he said.
Therefore, the type of rice, according to him, will continue to be developed and as a comparison. If the results of its productivity and quality are better than other rice and suitable for agricultural land in HST, then the seeds will be marketed and can be purchased.
Acting Regent said that since 85 percent of HST people are farmers, the government is focused on developing the agricultural sector and always trying to improve the lives of farmers.
"We have also prepared the procurement of farming tool and machine (alsintan) for farmers and will soon be distributed, one gapoktan will get one alsintan as needed," he said.
