Banjarbaru, S Kalimantan 15/1 (AntaranewsKalsel) - Dozens of houses in Banjarbaru City, South Kalimantan, suffered damage caused by strong winds and caused considerable losses.

Head of Banjarbaru Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Johar Arifin here on Monday said the location of the incident was in North Loktabat, Banjarbaru.

"It happened at about 4:30 pm destroying 14 homes of residents in Jalan Karang Mahoni in the North Loktabat subdistrict, North Banjarbaru," he said.

The incident did not cause any casualties, as the inhabitants of the house rushed out to escape the falling objects around them.

"The inhabitants rushed to save themselves out of the house hit by a tornado, so there were no casualties, only material losses estimated to reach tens of millions," he said.

He said the data collection in the field showed four houses suffered severe damage, such as the roof of the building flew due to the harsh breeze at the time of the incident.

Meanwhile, other houses in the residential areas affected by the strong winds suffered moderate and mild damage, with only some of the roof damaged.

"Heavily damaged homeowners were given tarpaulins to cover the roofs of their houses, as well as three other homeowners and the rest repaired damaged parts themselves," he said.

According to him, the strong wind accompanied the heavy rain that hit the housing area was allegedly very tight because it was able to lift the roof of a house made from multi-roof.

People are suggested to stay away from their house if high winds hit, so as not to fall victim due to debris or flying objects.

"If high winds suddenly appear immediately away and avoid looking for a safe place, do not stay in the house so not to be hit by debris," he said.
