Banjar Regent spreads tens thousands fish seeds

Martapura, S Kalimantan 12/7 (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Banjar Regent Khalilurahman spreaded tens of thousands of freshwater fish seeds in open water to better preserve the fish, including the distribution of fish in the biofloc system pond.

"There are 34 thousand fish seedlings that we have stocked in the waters of Mandi Kapau Village, Karang Intan Subdistrict, and are expected to breed," said the regent in Martapura, South Kalimantan, on Wednesday.

He said, tens of thousands of fish stocks are type of catfish, kelabau, papuyu, and baung which are typical fish of South Kalimantan and have high economic value.

The distribution of tens of thousands of freshwater fish seeds is as a step to preserve fish populations, especially the type of kelabau and baung which are estimated to have less population.

"We hope that the seeds of fish that have been stocked to be quickly and rapidly grow large, so the population increases. We also ask people not to catch the fish," he said.

According to the regent, he strongly supports the cultivation of fish through biofloc system as it is done by the managers and assisted by santri (Islamic boarding school students) at Pondok Pesantren Miftahussibyan, Mandikapau Village.

"We strongly support the cultivation of fish with biofloc system because it can reduce operational costs by utilizing fish waste and feed saving up to 20 percent," he said.

Head of Fishery and Maritime Agency Nor Ifansyah Pani said the biofloc system changed the organic and inorganic compounds in the pond according to size.

"The compound merges and then forms a clot that turns biopolymer into biofloc for fish consumption, which can reduce feed costs," he said.

Director of Freshwater Fish Aquaculture Center Mandiangin Haryo Sutomo said fish cultivation of biofloc system is very suitable for fish farmers in Banjar District.
