Kotabaru, South Kalimantan 12/6 (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Kotabaru Food Crops, Horticulture and Livestock Agency is now cultivating soybean crops in an area of 2,300 hectares to meet the local needs of raw materials for tahu and tempe.


"The plant is targeted to produce around 4,140 tons to 4,600 tons of soybeans," said acting head of Food Crops, Horticulture and Livestock Agency Budi Antara through Head of Food Crop H Gunawan in Kotabaru on Monday.

The cultivation of these crops this year is done in 11 of 21 sub-districts in Kotabaru. Namely 321 hectares in West Pulaulaut Sub-district, 140 ha in South Pulaulaut, Pulaulaut Island 430 ha, East Pulaulaut 163 ha, and Central Pulaulaut 467 ha.

Furthermore, in Pulaulaut Tanjung Selayar 48 ha, Kelumpang Hilir 135 ha, Hampang 330 ha, Central Kelumpang 60 ha, West Kelumpang 61 ha, and West Pamukan 143 ha.

To support the national food self-sufficiency program, the Food Crops, Horticulture and Livestock Agency develops rice, corn, and soybean (Pajale) in the district in the period of 2017.

Rice cultivation is targeted to cover 7,500 hectares in 17 of 21 sub-districts.

"With the expansion of rice plant 7,500 hectares is expected to produce 75,000 tons of rice to support national food self-sufficiency program," he said.

Corn cultivation area of 7,000 with production of about 84,000 tons. And from the corn plant area is expected to produce corn as much as 10 tons - 12 tons per hectare. Corn plants are developed in 18 of the 21 sub-districts.
