Sleet Drops in South Kalimantan

Barabai, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Villagers of Wawai Gardu in South Batang Alai, Central Hulu Sungai (HST) District, South Kalimantan, were shocked by the phenomenon of sleet or a mixture of rain and snow, Sunday (12/2).

At 17:30 pm, warm weather turned cloudy, then heavy rain. At the same time voice sounded like pebbles thrown onto rooftops of Wawai Gardu residents.

"Our house covered with zinc roof. Even in torrential rain we never heard so noisy sound like this," said Mahmudah.

Her husband, Apri, who was in the bathroom, felt peculiarities. "Curious we go out of the house and found the ice crystals like marbles," he said.

Apri touched to feel the pellet and it was really ice. 

"We also had time to take photos when the marbles of ice falling from the roof of a neighbor's house . About 10 minute later rain water returned to its normal shape," said Mahmudah.

Other residents in the village also felt the same thing, and until now the phenomenon of sleet is still being discussed.

"Almost all the residents feel the peculiarity, some took pictures and even uploaded to social media," said Mahmudah.

According to her, people in the village wished there is a scientific explanation why a mixture of rain and snow happened here.

Meanwhile, Fuad (35), a rubber farmer,  claimed he was in a rubber plantation weeding when pellet like snowflakes fell.

"Suddenly a heavy rain accompanied by wind. My body was like dropped by something, I guess seeds of rubber. But after I have observed, there was snowflakes in the size of marbles that accompanied the heavy rain that fell onto my body," he said.

Fuad was hurriedly went home on a motorcycle. "Because of wonder, I ask other friends. It turned out that they also see and feel there are ice crystals fall in the rain," said Fuad.
