The Industry Ministry expects the food industry to play an active role in achieving Net Zero Emissions (NZE) to reduce carbon emissions, which is one of the ministry’s development programs.

Industry Ministry's Director General of Agricultural Industries, Putu Juli Ardika, stated that the ministry has set a target to achieve NZE in the industry sector 10 years sooner than the national target of 2060.

Four strategies that will be the foundation of the target are transition to renewable energy, energy management and efficiency, electrification strategy in the production process, and Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) technology utilization, the director noted in a statement received here in Jakarta on Thursday.

“The food and beverage industry is expected to play an active role in achieving NZE,” he stated at the inauguration of the “Go Live” production information management and energy monitoring systems in the PT Niramas Utama central factory in Bekasi, West Java.

Ardika welcomed the food company’s initiative to decarbonize and its digital transformation into a green industry.

Other industries are expected to join the implementation of Industry 4.0 and green industry.

“We hope more initiatives like this will grow, so that our industry sector’s competitiveness will increase internationally,” he stated.

Meanwhile, PT Niramas Utama Board of Directors Adhi Lukman stated that the Bekasi factory is the first project in the digitalization of production information management and energy monitoring systems as well as the company’s commitment to the gradual implementation of the Industrial Revolution 4.0.

The project’s main purpose is to increase productivity, efficiency, and business process optimization as well as to fulfill the company’s responsibility for energy saving and carbon emission reduction to achieve the SDG target.

To support the company’s digital transformation into a green industry, PT Niramas Utama cooperates with Schneider Electric and PT JETEC Indonesia to conduct solution and technology implementation.

Schneider Electric Indonesia & Timor Leste Cluster President Roberto Rossi stated that the early implementation of the EcoStruxture for Industry solution is expected to increase energy efficiency and reduce asset maintenance costs by up to 20 percent per year.

The implementation is also expected to increase the data collection time by up to 99 percent and reduce the risk of failed products by up to 10 percent, with the return of investment (ROI) in two years.
