The Tabalong, South Kalimantan, Plantation and Livestock Office (Disbunnak) carries out vaccination to tens of thousands of poultry to prevent the animals from contracting tetelo or Newcastle Disease.
“Our target is community groups who raise poultry but do not take preventive measures," Head of Animal Health and veterinary Public Health of the Disbunnak Suwandi expounded here, Thursday.
He said this group usually keeps poultry without cages and lives in random places.
Poultry is any domesticated bird used for food. Varieties include chicken, turkey, goose, duck, Rock Cornish hens, and others.

Suwandi urged the group to catch and confine their poultry in cages and carry out biosecurity in the cages.
Including providing healthy food in order that domesticated birds used for food are not easily attacked by disease, especially during the current high rainfall.
Based on Disbunnak data, there are about 8 million chickens and ducks population in Tabalong District in sector 1, 2, and 3 which are managed by a number of companies.
Suwandi added that tetelo disease can cause birds to lose their appetite, lethargy, and trembling muscles, which can cause paralysis and even death in birds.
