The City Government of Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, has launched an environment preservation movement, one house one tree, in an endevour to create a green, shady, beautiful and cool city atmosphere.

Head of the City Environment Office Alive Yoesfah Love said that Banjarmasin has a narrow area, almost all areas are filled with residential areas, difficult to add green open space, the area of which must be 30 percent compared to the total city area which is only 98 square km.

Thus, a tactic is needed to deal with the problems, that is one tree one house movement, and it is much better if one house plants tens of trees.

The reason is Earth's global average temperature is increasing (global warming) to cause many problems everywehere, including in Banjarmasin. If left untreated, the condition of the city will certainly be unpleasant, so efforts are needed, one of which is reforestation.

"Alhamdulillah (Thank God) in the initial movement we have 26 thousand greening tress donated by the Forestry Office through Kayu Tangi Forest Management Unit (KPH), then an additional 5,000 trees donated by Bank Artha Graha," he said during the mass planting of reforestation trees to start the movement in Gatot Soebroto TNI Complex neighborhood, Banjarmasin, Friday.

This amount of tree seedlings will be distributed to the five sub-districts offices. Then through the sub-districts the seedlings are distributed to the community so that one house can plant one tree at least.

The Mayor was accompany by Commander of the City Military Command and Deputy Police Chief of the City as well as sub-district heads and urban village heads in the launching ceremony.
