Head of Tapin District Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Raniansyah said the intensity of forest and land fires (karhutla) is declining as rainy season comes.

"Karhutlas are down, because rainy season is begining," he said  to ANTARA in Rantau, Sunday.

He said the phase of karhutla is decreasing in October 2023 as rains increasing in Tapin District.

"In the last few days rain continues to fall in Tapin. In fact, it rains almost evenly in South Kalimantan area," said Raniansyah.

However, he admitted, that BPBD's officers still found hotspots that caused forest and land fires in several areas in the district.

"Yes, (I suspect) this is human activity, especially when entering planting season," he said.

Based on forecasts from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG), said Raniansyah, hot and rainy weather or transition of season will occur in October 2023.

BPBD Tapin recorded drastic reduction of forest and land fires. Based on data, in September reaching 63 points covering an area of 213 hectares. But in October down to 20 points with an affected land area of 71 hectares.

Throughnout dry season from June to 14 October 2023, BPBD Tapin has mitigated 127 fires covering an areas of 361 hectares.
