Kandangan, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Pondok Pesantren Babussalam South Hulu Sungai (HSS) develops rubber plantations to help provide education and operation of the boarding school.


HSS Regent Achmad Fikry in Kandangan on Friday said he strongly supports the boarding school efforts to develop plantations. Not only for operations and education, but also a means for the students to study agriculture and various other matters as a preparation for independent living.

Previously, Regent attended the inaugural rubber tapping activities in Babussalam and symbolic handover the aid of appropriate facilities and infrastructures from Forestry and Plantation Agency in Batu Bini, Sub-district of Padang Batung.

Agribusiness development in Ponpes Babussalam in form of rubber plantations began when it manager decided to buy land in the area in 2007.

Then through raising productivity and product quality of rubber tree program of the Forestry and Plantation Agency in 2009, theland which previously planted rice and grass Satalia as cattle food cleared for planting rubber trees at a distance of 3 x 7 meters.

Regent hoped that farmers always improve the quality of the incision, so it will be able to increase the selling price of rubber in the market.

"The existing rubber land can be maintained in order to survive longer, to support operational programs of Ponpes," he said.
