The armed group, led by Titus Murib on Thursday, set fire to a library in a public high school SMAN 1 Ilaga, Chief of the Puncak District Military Command Lt Col Inf. Jonathan Nadio stated in Jayapura on Friday.

Earlier, on Tuesday (August 15), the separatist group torched a Base Transceiver Station (BTS) tower and a resident's house, he remarked.

Rebel groups have launched shootings and went on a burning spree in the sub-districts of Gome and Ilaga on Tuesday.

The shooting in Gome was launched by Numbuk Telenggen-led armed group.

The Titus Murib-led armed group was behind the shooting and torching incidents in Ilaga.

"There are no victims among civilians, but a soldier was injured in the Gome shooting and evacuated to Timika," he added.

The shooting in Gome occurred on Tuesday when soldiers from the YR 300/Bjw mobile task force were heading to Gome.

Following the shooting, a joint military-police team was deployed from Ilaga to assist the task force. The team succeeded in taking control of the Numbuk Telenggen-led KKB headquarters.

However, on their way to return to Ilaga, the soldiers' truck got mired, and the armed group seized the opportunity to shoot the soldiers. Second Sergeant Yuan was hit by a bullet in the incident and was evacuated to Timika.
