Martapura, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Government of Banjar District, South Kalimantan, focus on peatland restoration efforts launched by the central government in anticipation of wildfires.


"The district is ready and focus on supporting restoration efforts as proclaimed by the central government," said the District Secretary (Sekdakab) Nasrun Syah in Martapura, Tuesday.

He said the district government has prepared measures to be carried out on peatlands which pretty much spread in a number of areas in the district.

The steps prepared is to build a pilot area of ​​peatland restoration to serve as an example in handling of peatlands for other regions.

"We make a pilot area of ​​peatland restoration, so it could be an example for other areas that have peatland," he said.

According to him, a pilot area located in Sub-district of Gambut and canal system is being prepared to prevent the spread of flames in case of fires.

"Canalization system prepared according to the direction of peat restoration teame, ither of the provincial or central government and we believe the canal system is quite effective," he said.

He insisted that the whole range of Banjar District continue preparing to face drought which is usually accompanied by land and forest fires, particularly in the peatlands.

"We have prepared a precautionary measure through the coordination of relevant departments and agencies so that if there is a forest fire can quickly be anticipated," he said.
