President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated four infrastructures worth Rp1.26 trillion that are aimed at preventing floods and handling traffic congestion in Bandung City and Bandung District, West Java, on Sunday.

"This afternoon, we will inaugurate retention ponds to control floods," he said at the Andir Retention Pond in Bandung District, West Java, on Sunday.

Jokowi elaborated, the central government built three flood-control infrastructures, namely the Cisangkuy Floodway, the Cieuntung Retention Pond, and the Andir Retention Pond, to prevent floods that often occur in Bandung following heavy rain.

According to him, the government provided Rp632 billion fund for the construction of the Cisangkuy Floodway, Rp204 billion for the Cieuntung Retention Pond, and Rp142 billion for the Andir Retention Pond.

To improve traffic flow and tackle traffic congestion in Bandung City, the government constructed the Kopo Flyover worth Rp288 billion.

"The total (fund for the four infrastructures) that have been built by the central government in Bandung City and Bandung District is Rp1.26 trillion," the president said.

The inauguration event was also attended by State Secretary Minister Pratikno, Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, members of the House of Representatives (DPR), and other public officials.

As quoted from the official website of the West Java Provincial Government, flood-control infrastructures such as the Cisangkuy Floodway, the Cieuntung Retention Pond, and the Andir Retention Pond are built to reduce inundation from overflows of the Citarum River in the southern part of Bandung District.

Meanwhile, according to the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, the Kopo Flyover has a length of 1.3 kilometers spanning over the Soekarno-Hatta Road in the Kopo area, the main route for commuters in the Cimahi-Bandung area that connect Bandung District and Bandung City.
