The government strives to ensure that the health financing system can be accessed by everyone, including the elderly, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin stated during the event to commemorate National Health Day here, Saturday.

"We have to ensure that our health financing system will be adequate, fair, and can be accessed by all Indonesians, especially those who are becoming old," he remarked.

The health financing system should not only cover rich people or civil servants but also poor people, independent workers, and those who are not part of the government, he remarked.

The government transforms the health financing system by fixing the health financing regulation to realize equality, access convenience, and health financing allocation sustainability.

Transforming the health financing system is important, given that the elderly population, who require high-cost health service, has increased, Sadikin stated during an event titled "Revive My Indonesia Be Healthy My Nation."

"Our population is becoming older. The older they are, the more expensive the medical cost becomes," he explained.

"I used to have parents and the responsibility that they and their children have to endure is excruciating and heavy," he stated.

Health financing system transformation is one of the six pillars of the national health system transformation.

These also encompass transformation of primary services, transformation of referral services, transformation of health resilience systems, transformation of health human resources, and transformation of health technology.

During the event, the minister also noted that commemoration of the 58th National Health Day can serve as a momentum for a major change in Indonesia's national health system.

As the COVID-19 pandemic situation stabilizes, the minister reminded his officials about the remaining time that they had in hand to transform the national health system.
