Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalimantan) - The famous Swarga Restaurant in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, burned. The fire which lasted about one hour burned down the entire building.


"The whole restaurant building was burned and there were no casualties, because the owner and waiters managed to escape," said Chief of Banjarbaru City Sector Police AKP Ana Setiani on Sunday.

Seen at the scene, the flames quickly devoured the restaurant on the side of main road Jalan Ahmad Yani Km 34 and caused traffic jams.

Police officers closed the flow of traffic from the direction of Banjarbaru to Banjarmasin for easy lineup of fire engines to quickly extinguish the blaze.

The magnitude of the fire made black smoke rising into the sky lasted nearly an hour and could only be stopped after a number of firefighter cars coming to the scene.

AKP Ana Setiani said police were still investigating the cause of fire. "The cause of the fire is still under investigation and we will ask witnesses to find out where the fire came from," he told reporters.

One of the residents, Fitri Zam-Zam, said information obtained from the owner of the restaurant the blaze thought to have come from the middle and then spread to the whole building.

"The information we get from the owner of the house, the fire allegedly came from the central part of the building. At that time, there happens to be a power outage," he said.

According to Fitri, whose house is just 50 meters from the scene, the restaurant was a culinary center that is old because it has been operating about 60 years.

"The restaurant that had stood since I was not born and is one of the icons of Banjarbaru," said community leader who is familiar as Dewa Pahuluan.
