Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Narcotics Penitentiary in Karang Intan, Banjar regency, South Kalimantan, now equipped with metal detector and guarded by the police.


"We do that to prevent illicit trafficking, abuse of mobile phones, and tighten security," said Karang Intan Narcotics Penitentiary Head M Hafil on Friday.

He said the metal detection tool is the same as that used in every airport, while the main entrance of the prison guarded by police.

"All staff and visitors to be checked or searched without exception, both body and luggage," he said when welcoming a visit from the Correctional Division of South Kalimantan Regional Office of the Law and Human Rights Ministry (Kemenkumham).

He explained the use of mobilephone owned by officers given a special registration mark and shall not be handed over to prisoners.

Head of the Correctional Division Harun Sulianto thanked the Regional Police Chief for security assistance to detention centers in South Kalimantan.

According to mutual agreement among Kemenkumham South Kalimantan, Regional Police and Provincial Narcotics Agency (BNNP), they jointly conduct searches in prisons in order to prevent drug illicit trafficking and abuse of mobilephone. It has been socialized to officers and inmates.

Harun also hopes narcotics prison officials and heads of each cell can be cooperative when later searches conducted by combined team.

"Previously we've been doing combined searches in Amuntai and Pelaihari some time ago and they run smoothly and safely under control," said the man who once served as head of Palembang Class I Prison.
