The Regent of Tanah Bumbu in South Kalimantan Province dr Zairullah has straightened out the tradition of yearly ritual of Mappanretasi (to feed the sea) to become "Mappanre Ri Tasie E" which mean to eat together at sea.

"This must be straightened out so as not to be misunderstood and not to be fallen into shirk," said the Regent in Batulicin, Wednesday.

He said beginning this year the name Mappanretasi is changed to Mappanre Ri Tasie E.

The sea party is a culture that is carried out from generation to generation by people in Tanah Bumbu who live on the coastal area, especially Pagatan town.

However, to maintain the culture not to mix with shirk, the local government eliminates some activities that previously had been carried out, such as slaughtering chickens in the middle of the sea.

"As Muslims, maintaning culture is good indeed, but we must be able to sort out and leave things that can lead to shirk, because it is forbidden in Islam," said Zairullah.
