Batulicin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Tanah BumbuDisaster Management Agency (BPBD) urged people in the area to be alert for floods and landslides due to heavy rainfall.

"Especially those who live in disaster-prone areas," said Head of Tanah Bumbu BPBDs Mariani in Batulicin Wednesday.

She said people living in low-lying areas prone to flooding and must be alert, because of the relatively high intensity of rain river water could potentially overflow.

Even in normal rainfall conditions, she added, a high intensity produce more volume of water that flows into the lowlands and triggering flooding.

Flood-prone areas, such as Subdistrict of Satui, Batulicin and Kusan Hulu must be vigilant, especially if heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the landslide could potentially occur in upland areas, including on the slopes of the mountains, so that people should be wary of the disaster.

"Landslides can be caused by soils can not hold much volumes of rainwater, so the plateau and the slopes of the mountain could landslide at any time," she said.

Tanah Bumbu BPBDs currently provide socialization to coastal communities related to big waves in the last few weeks that the fishermen to be careful when sailing fishing.

"In addition to describing the dissemination to coastal communities, we mobilized BPBDs to monitor the weather by providing early warning of impending floods," she said.

One way of doing weather monitoring by installing flood detector in Satui.
