Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Head of the Banjarmasin's Environmental Agency (BLHD) Hamdi said air pollution here today dominated by fine dust than smog from burning woods.

When at City Hall on Friday, he said fine dust flying in the air this time exceeds the normal threshold of 230 micrograms per cubic meter. The average is currently between 243-245 micrograms per cubic meter.

"So the danger of pollution that residents must beware is the air full of dust, but they also should remain alert to the dangers of smog shrouded the air today," he said.

Hamdi explained smog submissions from other regions which suffered forest fire does not occur throughout the day, while fine dust floating in the air does not know the time.

Nevertheless, he said, the fine dust pollution became a serious hazard to health, namely the occurrence of acute respiratory diseases infection (ISPA), that people need to avoid it by using mask either at home or out of the house.

He stated, Banjaramsin which became the capital of the province is still hard to overcome air quality to meet health. This is because the density of traffic flow that greatly contributed to pollution of exhaust fumes and dust anyway.

According to him, because this area has very minimal green area, it needs a big step for the local government with help of the provinces and central government to restore the shade and green as a way to reduce air pollution in the "city of a thousand river."
