The City Government of Banjarbaru launched Basingsing (Banjarbaru Singkirkan Stunting or Banjarbaru removes stunting) program as an effort to accelerate the reduction of malnutrition cases of children in the city.
Banjarbaru Mayor H M Aditya Mufti Ariffin launched the program at the 2021 Banjarbaru Stunting Consultation at Gawi Sabarataan Hall, Thursday, attended by Deputy Mayor Wartono, the City Secretary Said Abdullah, Chairwoman of TP PKK Vivi Mar'i Zubedi Aditya, heads of SKPDs, heads of sub-districts, community organization such as Kota Sehat, Kotaku, LPM, and RT/RW forum.
"Basingsing program is one of the concrete steps taken by the Banjarbaru government to prevent stunting so that the future of children will be brighter," said the mayor.
Stunting or often called short is a condition of failure to grow for children under five because of chronic malnutrition and repeated infections.
This condition mainly occurs in the first 1,000 days of life from fetus to 2-year-old child caused by multidimensional factors, including poor parenting practices.
Then, due to limited health services, lack of access to nutritious food, and lack of access to clean water and sanitation that make children disturbed from the beginning of their growth period.

Head of the Banjarbaru Convergence Team for the Acceleration of Stunting Reduction Kanapi said the results of the Ministry of Health's Basic Health Research every 5 years showed the Banjarbaru prevalence of stunting in 2018 was 39.73 percent.
It was the highest in South Kalimantan. Every effort has been made until the prevalence was reduced by 18,08 percent in 2019.
In 2020 the number fell again to 14.19 percent which was recorded through electronic community-based nutrition recording and reporting (e-ppgbm) which will continue to be improved.
"The success of reducing prevalence will continue to be increased in the coming year according to the target set in the Banjarbaru RPJMD 2021-2026 document," said Kanapi, who is also the head of Banjarbaru Development Planning Agency (Bappeda).
