Banjarmasin (South Kalimantan Antaranews) - A bekatan drifting in the Barito River suspected as proceeds of crime by a group of people for commercial use.


"We found that monkey in the river due to report from coastal community and we went to the scene it is true and we immediately secured it," said Chief of Water Police Unit (Satpolair) Banjarmasin AKP Untung Widodo here on Monday.

Satpolair receiving reports from residents on Sunday (17/5) night around 20:30 and went straight to the scene. Proboscis rescued and secured around 22:00.

When secured, the animal known as the Dutch monkey had a chance to jump to a barge that was passing in the waters. But with prudence and patience, monkey with a long nose down it eventually willing to come and be invited to the Satpolair Headquarters.

Untung wondered if the bekantan was caught by unresponsible people to be traded, but the proboscis monkey had escaped and jumped into the river.

The second possibility, the proboscis went up to the barge when mooring near swamp forests and was carried to get to the waters near Trisakti Port Banjarmasin.

Proboscis is scheduled to be submitted to the Quarantine on Tuesday (19/5) morning. While the investigation related to bekantan findings still be conducted.
