Amuntai, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Custom woven in North Hulu Sungai (HSU) develops new variants of various webbing to open up wider market opportunities.


Not in vain apparently, that HSU Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, Trade and Industry Agency (Dinkuperindag) encourages local artisans to improve webbing variants and always innovative.

Artisans of the Bamban Sub-district who used to made bakul or traditional baskets for carrying agricultural products, among others. Now they innovate by making bags and more.

"We have given them technical training to improve the quality webbing, so that  Bamban crafts selling prices also increased," said Head of Industry of Dinkuperindag Sri Mainor in Amuntai on Thursday.

Once finished bags given various motifs, patterns and variants, said the Kamayahan Village chief Norhaidah, Bamban craft selling price increases up to three fold.

"One bag with motifs and designs sold for Rp100 thousand to 150 thousand," he added.

Mainor said, now woven crafts Bamban could be marketed to the region of East Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan, even some collectors have sold them to the island of Java.

However, Mainor acknowledged, support equipment can not be given to the village Kamayahan, which has 20 artisans. As a result, they only could sell semi finished product, so the price is certainly cheaper.

Bamban craft raw materials derived from skins of bamban plant. It is a kind of shrubby plant widely grown in swamp in North Amuntai sub-district.
