Hundreds of rice farmers in Satui Sub-district, Tanah Bumbu District, South Kalimantan Province, are facing the threat of crop failure due to floods that hit the region.

Head of Tanah Bumbu Agriculture Office Faurazi Akbar through Head of Food Crop Division Roby here on Sunday said that 400 hectares of paddy fields in the sub-district are threatened with crop failure.

"Some of the rice plants are even ready to harvest, but the hope of farmers to save their crop is very small, because the water is still inundating the rice fields since Thursday, May 14, 2021," he said.

To reduce losses for farmers in Satui, the Agriculture Office of Tanah Bumbu has proposed to the South Kalimantan Agriculture Office to distribute free rice seeds to farmers affected by the flood.

"Insha Allah, in the near future, the proposal for rice seed assistance to the South Kalimantan Agriculture Office will be realized. When it arrives we will soon distribute it to them through farmer groups," he said.
