The Saudi government has donated three thousand packages containing basic necessities and 15 tons of dates for the Indonesian community on behalf of King Salman bin Abdulaziz.
In addition, the Saudi government has provided 10 thousand meal packets for the poor, orphans, and medical workers for breaking fast and 30 thousand copies of the Holy Quran and its Indonesian translation for the Indonesian community.
Saudi Ambassador to Indonesia, Esam Abid Althagafi, symbolically handed over the donation to the director-general of Islamic guidance at the Religious Affairs Ministry, Prof. Kamaruddin Amin, at the Office of the Religious Attaché of the Saudi Embassy in Jakarta on Thursday.
"As you know, first of all, the bilateral relations between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia, alhamdulillah (thank God), are strong," Althagafi said.
Both countries have strong historical ties, he added.
"As you know that we are in the holy month of Ramadhan, and this appreciation is to show our brothers here in Indonesia that we are very close to them in the holy month of Ramadhan," he remarked.
Meanwhile, Prof. Kamaruddin Amin welcomed the donation and said: “Thank you for the Saudi government's attention to the Muslim community in Indonesia by, among others, providing packages of basic necessities, meals to break fasting, and dates.”
The donated items will be distributed among Islamic institutions, mass organizations, Islamic boarding schools, mosques, and the poor, he added. (INE)
