Banjarbaru, 13/12 (Antara) - Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical of Climatological Station or BMKG Class I Banjarbaru Purwanto urged people to be vigilant on tornado in South Kalimantan.


"During the rainy season the weather can change at any time and potentially bring a tornado, so that the public must be vigilant," he said in Banjarbaru on Saturday.

He said the high winds or tornado often appear in an open area and takes place in a short time but the nature of the wind can damage anything.

Therefore, he said, members of the public who reside in an open area and relatively few trees had to be alert to the emergence of wind that came suddenly.

"Although the area through which small wind blow and in short duration, but the nature of the wind is very damaging. So, the emergence of wind that can come suddenly have to watch out," he said.

According to him, a tornado can occur together with heavy rains that hit the region so that if it rains and strong winds have to be vigilant.

In addition to often appear in open areas such as the edge of the fields, a tornado can also appear in open waters so that fishermen are asked to beware.

Meanwhile, during the rainy season in South Kalimantan occurred since the beginning of November 2014, tornado hit the village Tabunio in Takisung, District of Tanah Laut.

Strong winds that occurred on Wednesday (10/12) damaging seven houses both heavy and light, and also led to damage school buildings.
