Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Head of the South Kalimantan Regional Office of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights Junaidi on Wednesday said about 60 percent of prison inmates in the province comes from drug cases.


"Of the 6,328 inmates who now occupies 12 correctional and detention Institution in South Kalimantan, as many as 3,583 people or about 60 percent of them came from drug case," he said.

By looking at the picture of the inhabitants of prisons or detention center inmates in the province which consists of 13 districts and cities this means drug cases here was startle. Almost all prisons or detention full of lawlessness because of the very high drug abuse. "I myself was surprised by the fact that many drug cases in this area," he said.

Head of the Division of Corrections Harun Sulianto stated, the only special prison inmate drug in this area in Karang Intan, Banjar District, now exceeds the capacity.

"Karang Intan Drugs Prison (54 kilometers northeast of Banjarmasin) capacity only 300 people actually, now inhabited by 772 inmates. It forced us to build additional facilities," he said.

Additionally, the office will build a prison again in the Cempaka, Banjarbaru, which can accommodate 1,000 inmates. "But it's for the common prison," he said.

According to him, the number of criminal law involved citizens to enter prisons / detention in this area is quite high. On average 300 people a month. "Most certainly for drug charges," he said.
