President Joko Widodo has expressed deep gratitude to doctors for always remaining at the frontlines to prevent and handle health problems, including the COVID-19 pandemic, in Indonesia.

“On behalf of the people, nation, and state, (I would like to) express (our) gratitude and appreciation to Indonesian doctors for their dedication, struggle, and sacrifice to always stay at the forefront of the battle to prevent and handle health problems,” he said in his online address on the anniversary of the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) from the Presidential Secretariat here on Saturday.

Doctors also render services to the state because they serve the people in all parts of the country, including villages, border areas, outlying islands, and isolated areas, he observed.

“(Once again), I express the highest gratitude and appreciation to the doctors for their dedication, struggle, and sacrifice,” he said.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the people have witnessed the steadfastness of doctors as humanitarian heroes, sacrificing their time and energy to rescue fellow human beings, he added.

He further expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the families of 136 doctors who died while handling COVID-19 patients. (INE)
