A teenage girl, resident of Sungai Loban Sub-district in Tanah Bumbu, South Kalimantan, who was lost after being pounced on by a crocodile while swimming in Kusan River was finally found, but in a very critical condition.


Head of the Tanah Bumbu Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Eryanto Rais, who was with the Sungai Loban Sub-district Head Rusdi, said 
Devi (17) was found at 11.40 Wita (Central Indonesia Time) on Sunday about 100 meters from the scene.

"When found, the victim's condition was very critical, blood came out through nose, and mouth draining water. Officers rushed her to the nearest public health center, but the victim's life cannot be saved," he said.

"Now the victim has been buried by her family, we hope this accident does not happen again," he concluded.

Previously, Tanah Bumbu Police Chief Adj Sr Comr (AKBP) Sugianto Marweki through the Ops Chief Comr Yulianor Abdi in Batulicin said based on witnesses testimony on Sunday, May 10, 2020, around 07.00 Wita the victim swam in the river with three friends, AA (17), JS (17) and HS (20).

She swam slightly to the middle, then JS and the victim pulled over. But then the victim jumped back to the river and had not floated.

While the victim had not come out to the surface, JS saw a crocodile bite and pulled the victim's hand into the middle of the river.

The police warned that in order for this incident not to happen all residents who live near the Kusan River should not do any activities on the river.

The police also appealed to local residents to increase the vigilance of wild animals by putting banners and billboards at several points that are considered vulnerable to wild animals, especially crocodiles.
