Amid the alarming outbreak of the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) jamu (traditional herbal drinking) traders, especially in Kampung Pejabat Loktabat Urban Village in Banjarbaru, flooded with orders.


The traditional herbal remedies, which use ginger, turmeric, galangal, and Curcuma as raw materials is believed to boost immune systems and effectively prevent viruses or germs.

Kampung Pejabat is an abbreviation for Kampung Pedagang dan Pengolah Jamu Loktabat (Pejabat) or the village of traders and maker of traditional herbal drinking in Loktabat.

One of the traders is Tarmuji here on Wednesday said, in the last few weeks he and other makers and traders of jamu were overwhelmed by making jamu, because of consumer demand had risen sharply.

Actually, he said, jamu makers in the Kampung Pejabat are quite a lot. From 78 family head, 33 work as sellers and makers of traditional herbal drinking.

The Kampung Pejabat is also increasingly popular and becoming a tourist spot. Here they develop the modern concept of selling by establishing a number of jamu cafes.

In one day, Tarmuji claimed to be able to sell up to 100 glasses of various types of jamu drinking at prices ranging from Rp3 thousand to Rp5 thousand.

Jamu making and selling has been one of the main income of the residents of Kampung Pejabat since 1979. Most of its residents are migrants from Solo, Central Java.

Although consumer demand has risen sharply, profits have not increased, because the price of raw material is now expensive.
