Banjarmasin Mayor Preserve Garuda Rambutan

Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - Banjarmasin Mayor Haji Muhidin accompanied by Chairman of the local PKK Hj Fathul Jannah planting seeds of Garuda rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum ) as a kind of the local superior.

The rambutan seedlings took place on Thursday ( 6/2 ) in rambutan plantation centers Simpang Bamban Village, Sungai Lulut Village, Eastern Banjarmasin Subdistrict. 

Mayor also accompanied by Deputy Mayor HM Irwan Ansari and the Regional Secretary  Zulfadli Gazali.

After planting, the mayor with the entourage harvest in a three hectares land of rambutan plantation, filled with various types of rambutan among which Garuda, Batuk, and Antalagi rambutan. At that location there are 20 farmers' groups which are under the supervision of the Banjarmasin Agriculture and Fisheries Agency.

Rambutan harvest was also attended by all heads of regional work units (SKPD) of Banjarmasin city government and local communities.

Banjarmasin mayor hopes rambutan farmers to always coordinate with the Agriculture and fisheries Agency in order to obtain better results and overcome the plant when exposed to pests.

He also advised that the farmers are not tempted to sell their farmland , which then be used as a residential area as it will damage the natural ecosystem .

Based on the record , Garuda rambutan rambutan has advantages over other types . In addition to the sweet taste, the fruit is large (50.40 gram/fruit), fruit flesh thickness (0.65 cm), and small grain (2.45 g).
