The 2020 online population census in Tanah Bumbu District, South Kalimantan, will be conducted independently by the community for more than a month from February 15 to March 21.

Head of the Tanah Bumbu Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Akhmad Muzakir here said on Sunday that people are guided to conduct online data filling independently by accessing bps.co.id. No need to wait for BPS officials to come to their homes.

"Fill out personal identity, including education status or address. And the person concerned can also update their own data if had previously been mistaken," he said.

This is the advantage of this first online population census that the person is able to make changes to his own data at any time by accessing the application via a mobile phone, meaning that the relevant data is more confidential.

For people who have not accessed the online population census in February-March, they can do it in June.

When the data was updated in June, the BPS staff would visit the homes of the residents concerned to help fill out the data.

"For socialization, BPS will hold a coordination meeting with the sub-district to be asked for assistance related to implementation in the field later," he said.

The online population census also goes through three stages, namely conventional, full updating using registration data and using Civil Registry and Population Agency (Dukcapil) data according to UN recommendations.

"This program is mandated by Indonesian President Joko Widodo in the declaration of the 2020 population census. We must encourage the public to get closer to or accustom the use of technology including using an online population census," he concluded.
