The Government of South Hulu Sungai (HSS) District through Disaster Mitigation and National and Political Unity Office (Badan PB dan Kesbangpol) have declared alert status on flood, landslide, and whirlwind or tornado.
Head of the office, Efran, here on Thursday (Jan 2, 2019) said, the vigilance status was stated in the HSS Regent H Achmad Fikry Decree No.188.45/381/KUM/2019 and is in effect since December 1, 2019 until Januari 31, 2020.
"Command posts have been activated and today a cross-sector coordination meeting to anticipate flood is held at the HSS Police Office. We have been coordinating with the rapid reaction team in case of disaster, including of providing heavy equipment from Public Works Agency, rubber boats, as well as evacuation and rescue equipment," he remarked.

He explained, areas in HSS prone to landslide are in the sub-districts of Loksado, Padang Batung, and Telaga Langsat, prone to flooding in Loksado, Padang Batung, Angkinang, and Sungai Raya.
The Kandangan Sub-district should be aware of the possibility of a shipment floding even though it only passes through, while the three Daha, covering South Daha, North Daha, and West Daha Sub-district, are usually inundated because Daha is the basin area.

Related to the increase of rainfall, he reminded, that all levels of society to give information to each other, and remind each other to be alert to disaster in their respective neighborhood.
"Climate change with high rainfall, and if around the house there are large trees to watch out for. Likewise people who live along the riverbanks beware of flood or sudden water discharge increases," he warned.
Sub-district heads are reminded to keep monitoring and check the areas in their villages, especially in the Amandit River bank area, as well as village heads to stay active and not to leave their respective areas for too long.
