As many as 39 officials of South Hulu Sungai (HSS) District Government, South Kalimantan, officially become foster for elderly. The elderly foster care program was launched by Regent H. Achmad Fikry in commemoration of the 23rd National Elderly Day (HLUN) here.


Head of the HSS Social Agency Hj Siti Erma in Kandangan on Thursday (8/22) said this is the innovative program run by the HSS government.

"The official foster elderly is a follow up to the award received by the Regent of HSS as a figure of elderly care," she said in commemoration of Children's Day, National Family Day, and National Elderly Day which took place at the MTQ Building Kandangan.

For this program, the Regent directed the government working unit (SKPD) heads to have at least one elderly to foster. The goal is to get closer to the senior citizens, not only to help them for their basic needs, but also for their social requirements, such as to share, socialize, and to be their talk partners.

Regent H Achmad Fikry expressed his gratitude to the officials in the district government of HSS who were willing to become foster care of the senior citizens and this was the first to be implemented in Indonesia.
 
According to him, foster elderly to be used as a charity field to share affection for people in need, as well as directing that the HSS Social Service can collaborate with the HSS Health Service to continue the elderly visit program by health officials.

"Hopefully the momentum of Children's Day, Family Day  which is also tailored with Elderly Day this year is an encouragement to be able to share to those in need," he said.
