The Al Khair Integrated Islamic School (SIT) Barabai slaughtered nine sacrificed animals which were then distributed to 1,100 residents around using no plastic bags.

The head of the sacrificial activities M Fauzan revealed that the cows were sacrifice from Al Khair students as well as from HST District residents.

"After being slaughtered, the meat is distributed to those who are entitled to receive, including for orphans, the poor, the surrounding community and SIT Al Khair Barabai employees," he said.

But different from previous years, the distribution of sacrificial meat on Tuesday (8/13) in Barabai did not use plastic bags. Instead they go green by using baskets of purun, besek (containers made of plaited bamboo), and banana leaf punders.

Why without plastic? The reason is plastic waste is recycled products that contain carcinogens and other chemicals, and are difficult to decompose for hundreds of years.

The Operational Director of SIT Al Khair Nazar Budiman explained that the zero waste program will continue to be launched and practiced in the school. The aim is to minimize the use of plastic and replace with alternative containers.

"Hopefully the zero waste program that we do inspires many people to reduce the use of plastic in everyday life," he said.
